Is NOW (during a WORLDWIDE CRISIS) the best time to make and release content?
The two words we can’t help but read in every article on the internet at the moment: STONER PIRATES. No wait, CORONA. VIRUS. CORONA VIRUS. That’s the badger.
I did spot a few articles regarding the positive effects of covid-19; i.e. the decrease in carbon emissions and enhancement of air quality, which run in a similar vein to the article you’re about to read.
So, how many ways are there to look at a drastic situation in a positive light?
Well, if you’re a musician, vlogger, content creator or someone who’s income relies on online views, there’s certainly one more.
Being locked in your house can mean three things. You will be:
cold (if you don’t have heating)
hot (if you don’t have air conditioning)
mild (if you have a little bit of both)
Being locked in your house can also mean another thing, which is not even slightly associated with temperature.
YOU WILL PROBABLY SPEND MORE TIME IN FRONT OF A SCREEN
To be honest, it’s inevitable that people will turn more to their phones, TV’s and lappy-toppies during a lockdown.
“Shall I go and see grandma?”
“no, she’s old and her legs are like two matchsticks set in jelly overnight.”
“oh yes, good point. I guess we’ll Skype her instead.”
*Skypes her instead*
I have little doubt that Netflix shares will be heading for the stars, in correlation with the increase in global lock-down precautions.
So, if the average Joe and Joanne are spending a more-than-average time on YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo, Amazon, the INTERNET AS A WHOLE, then why is this considered a positive effect of the Corona Virus?
I’LL TELL YOU WHY:
Anything you create now, or have created for you (musicians looking for animated music videos, I’m your man), is likely to receive more exposure now than before the virus, solely because your potential audience will have grown and will have an appetite for content. Content that keeps the virus tucked neatly out of view, content that they want to watch and watch AGAIN. Content that they’d want to share.
Conclusively, it is my belief that if you’re a musician, a vlogger, a blogger, or a content creator in any way, shape or form, you must take the reigns on this unprecedented event,
The world’s full of eyes, and it just so happens that many of these eyes will be focused on the World Wide Web. www.everyonewillbewatchingtheirscreens.com. (that's not an actual website, don’t click it. Or do, it’s a free world.)
Hope this article of conjecture strikes some creative, entrepreneurial or other non-literal fires in some of you in a time of genuine uncertainty and worry.
If you liked this, then please spread the word, not the virus.
Best,
Jake
